Recent increase in Burglaries

Dear Residents,

Since January 2025, there has been an increase in burglaries, namely Hanoi Burglaries (where car keys are stolen to take the car) in the Marfleet, and Longhill and Bilton Grange areas. The vast majority of incidents occur when front and back doors, and windows are left unlocked during the night. However there have been a few incidents whereby locks have been snapped.

A variety of vehicles have been targeted including Volkswagen (Golf), Mercedes, Vauxhall, Skoda and Ford. Other property stolen in these offences have been; wallets, bank cards, cash and TV.

The peak times of these offences tend to be between midnight to 0500HRS.

We are glad to tell you that currently there are no outstanding suspects for any offences however mandatory patrols will be patrolling key hot spot areas during the peak times to increase the police presence.

This message is to spread the awareness of these offences to ensure you do as much as you can to prevent being a possible victim. Investing in extra door locks or door braces are a good method however we understand that not everyone is in a position to afford extra equipment.

However, there are things you can do that don’t cost which can go a long way in preventing the offences. Such as making sure your doors and windows are locked on an evening when you go to bed, to making sure your car keys and any other valuables are placed in a safe and hard to find location. Ideas such as putting some obstacle in the way of your car if on a drive can also be little adjustments that make your car and house look less appealing for any potential suspects as they would have to move the obstacle, potentially making them more likely to be heard.
